The song “Let It Go” from the the Disney film Frozen is about unleashing one’s inner potential through the shedding of fear and limits imposed by both self and society. But there is more than one way to be afraid and more than one way to let go. Clinging to anything, even the idea of unleashing one’s potential, is often born out of fear, and sometimes the greatest empowerment comes from letting go of even the desire for empowerment.
In this mash-up by Steamfaerie (@steamfaerie), the refrain from Elsa’s rousing proclamation of self-empowerment takes on a different context when juxtaposed against that perennial anthem to acceptance, The Beatles’ “Let It Be.”
So whoever you are, wherever you are: perhaps you’re struggling and struggling to empower yourself and things just don’t seem to be working out. Or perhaps things are happening around you that are out of your control and they make you feel sad, powerless, or unable to do anything to help. If so, then perhaps it’s a moment for a different kind of empowerment. Perhaps it’s a moment to let it go, to let it be.
Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on
Let it be (x4)
There will be an answer
Turn away and slam the door
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Whisper words of wisdom
The cold never bothered me anyway.
