HBO took the first big night in television of the new year (football, Golden Globes) to drop an extended trailer for season four of Game of Thrones. And everyone from the Wall to Slaver’s Bay is getting hot in their chain mail.
The trailer begins with a little foreshadowing as a dragon casts its shadow over the Red Keep. Then, Sir Jorah waxes sagely to Daenerys saying, “It’s easy to see your enemies as evil, but there is good and evil on both sides, in every war ever fought.”
Glimpses are seen of all the main players as well as a few new ones, such as Prince Oberyn Martell who is seen sauntering around Kings Landing, and dueling with Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane.
Followers of GOT have now moved in two distinct camps, it would seem: those that haven’t read the novels, eagerly waiting to see if Joffery meets his demise, and those that have, checking to see which bits are left in and which are left out.
Whatever camp you lie in, put on a scarf and pack a hot thermos because winter is coming. Not the one already freezing our asses off but the one we really care about.
Game of Thrones season 4 will cover the second half of the third book in Martin’s series, A Storm of Swords. The first episode premiers on Sunday, April 6th.
