This year, as a newbie cosplayer, I jump both feet first into the joyous pool of C2E2. I’m excited to rub elbows with my fellow geeks next week. Aside from the FUNimation bar at the Hyatt, here’s what I’m looking forward to the most:
5. We Are Cosplay
In addition to their cosplay photography panel (Friday, 12:15 – 1:15 pm), WAC will have cosplay repair available at their table, should you need a quick fix for your awesome costume.
4. She Changed Comics
(Sunday, 10:45 -11:45 am) – I can’t wait to hear from these pioneers in comics and graphic novels. Panelist Lucy Knisely wrote one of my favorite graphic memoirs (Displacement).
3. Geek Girls Unite: Finding Your Space in Fandom
(Saturday, 12:30 – 1:30 pm) – Being a newish cosplayer, I’m dancing on my own a bit. I’m looking forward to this panel’s ideas on where I can find like-minded, kick-ass women. Perhaps I’ll start my own cosplay book club.
2. The Crown Championships of Cosplay
(Saturday, 6:30 pm) With “Larger Than Life” costumes required to extend limbs by at least a foot, no way am I missing this. I’ll be fixated on each and every costume, admiring the craftsmanship, and taking notes. Let’s see if I agree with the judges’ final decision.
1. Stan Lee
If you need to ask why, then you probably aren’t attending. I imagine I’ll be squeezing into the Stan Lee & Frank Miller One-on-One (Saturday, 11:00 am – 12 pm). Lee has my undying love as he knows how important his fans are. (Contrast this with whiners like Selena Gomez who complain about being famous. Go work in an office, then.)
